What is QTcheck and Why can QTcheck change your baby's life?

QTcheck is an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) screening service for newborns and infants ages 2-weeks to 1-year-old. An ECG is a device that records the heart’s electrical activity, or heart rhythm. Most ECG machines have been designed for use in adults with 10 cables that attach to 10 sticky patches on the patient’s chest. Thanks to funding from the National Institute of Health, QT Medical has spent the last five years researching and developing an ECG system designed specifically for babies. We call this revolutionary technology QTcheck.

A very important feature of QTcheck is its ability to screen babies for LQTS and other forms of heart disease. LQTS is an abnormal heart rhythm disease that in some cases can be fatal. In addition, research shows that about 10% of SIDS cases are caused by LQTS. A simple, non-invasive ECG test can identify LQTS in time to allow for proper medical therapy. Our QTcheck service can provide an ECG system that’s easy to use, reliable, cost-effect and now readily available. The QTcheck kit includes a small high quality ECG recorder, a single chest strip, and one quick guide. The system is simple enough that parents with no training or ECG experience can do this test on their babies at home in just 5 minutes. When necessary, the service also includes a genetic test and genetic counseling.

With QTcheck, we strive to change your baby’s life by ensuring a healthier future.

QTcheck Workflow

Why should parents request QTcheck test for their babies?

Detecting LQTS before the first symptom

LQTS occurs in 1 in every 2,000 newborns, and causes 300 to 400 sudden explained infant deaths in the U.S. each year. If diagnosed in time, LQTS is very responsive to medical therapy to prevent sudden death. The key to prevention is to identify babies with LQTS using an ECG and get them treated before they have the first symptom, which often is sudden death. With the use of our QTcheck service, your baby will get a simple and reliable ECG in the comfort of your home. The ECG data will be interpreted by a board-certified children’s heart specialist and results will be made available to you quickly and efficiently.

Detecting other heart diseases

Although your baby had pulse oximetry screening for some forms of congenital heart disease at birth, many other heart diseases, such as irregular heart beat (arrhythmia), and a large hole or narrowed valve in the heart, can be missed. QTcheck is a quality 12-lead ECG, same quality as the ECG you would get in the hospital, that can also detect many other forms of heart disease in babies. The QTcheck tests will be interpreted by qualified children’s heart specialists (pediatric cardiologists).

Our Vision for QTcheck

Our vision is to provide the QTcheck service to all babies in the U.S. so that babies with LQTS can be diagnosed and treated in time. We will also advocate for adding LQTS screening to the Universal New Born Screening Panel*. We hope our efforts will lead to fewer families having to live through the pain of losing their child.

*Universal Newborn Screening Panel, the panel decided by the Department of Health and Human Services that requires all newborns to be tested for a list of genetic and metabolic diseases, and the recently added pulse oximetry for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) screening in hospital nurseries.

About Us

QT Medical, Inc. is a medical device startup incorporated in 2013. With innovative technologies, we aim to make high quality 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) available to everyone. QTcheck is the world's most compact 12-lead ECG system. With its simplicity, ease of use, familiar interface by mobile technology, QTcheck is specifically designed for newborns and infants. The QTcheck is digital, wireless, and mobile friendly. It is smaller than a deck of cards, fits in the shirt pocket, and works with iOS and Android phones and tablets. In a clinical trial, we found that over 95% of patients with no training, and no experience with ECG, could do a full 12-lead ECG test after reading simple instructions. This revolutionary system will enable patients with heart disease to do timely, high quality 12-lead ECG tests at the convenience and comfort of their homes.

Focusing on innovations in the field of telemedicine and home care, we continue to invest in research and development of products that will bring better cardiac care to patients. Our mission is to improve heart health for everyone through superior technology.
